Is Minnow Swim Worth It? I Tried It to Find Out!
Is it worth investing in Minnow Swim, especially their mommy and me matching? I tried it to find out!

I recently stumbled upon Minnow Swim while researching family matching brands, and I have to say, it’s been a delightful find.
Having tried both their clothes and swimwear for my toddler, and a swimsuit for myself, I feel it’s time to let you in on the verdict – is Minnow worth it? Yes and no. Here’s my full review:
The Aesthetic Appeal: Transported to Nantucket
One of the first things that drew me to Minnow Swim was their exquisite color palette and design aesthetic. Looking at their collections, I felt transported to Nantucket (not that I’ve been there, but I can imagine), with its picturesque coastal charm.
The soft hues, timeless stripes, and understated elegance of Minnow’s designs evoke a sense of serene summer days by the beach, and I love their terry cloth options as well – they might even be my favorite part.
Minnow Craftsmanship and Details
Minnow Swim’s little thoughtful details are what make this a higher end brand. Let’s start with the clothes.
There’s something incredibly luxurious about their terry cloth fabric – it’s plush, soft, and perfect for post-swim coziness. The attention to detail in their clothing, from the stitching to the pockets and the thoughtful accents, sets them apart from many other brands. Running as much as $52 for a shirt, this is expected, and they deliver.
Swim-wise, in addition to the usual board shorts and girls one pieces and bikinis, they have rash guards and long-sleeved options as well, which is a must for us. It’s just so much easier ensuring sun protection with coverage rather than chancing missing spots with sunscreen. The pieces can often be mixed and matched as well and still look great.
In terms of quality, Minnow Swim is comparable to Rylee + Cru, another brand I adore that focuses more on a neutral than colorful pallette. Both brands excel in creating beautiful, durable clothing that stands up to the rigors of active toddlers. Minnow’s clothes, however, have a unique coastal vibe that makes them feel different.
Mommy and Me Matching
I was initially led to the brand when researching mommy and me matching brands that included mothers and sons, which many don’t!
Minnow has a huge mommy and mini section of their site, with options for mom, daughter and son. Though I haven’t tried them, they also have hats that match the suits. So cute!
While I adore Minnow Swim’s clothing, my experience with their swimwear has been a bit mixed. For my toddler, the swimsuits are adorable and well-constructed, but they do tend to run small. If you decide to purchase Minnow swimwear for your child, I’d recommend sizing up to ensure a comfortable fit. Despite the sizing issue, the swimsuits have held up well to frequent use and washing, maintaining their color and shape beautifully.
For myself, I found the swimsuit to be stylish but not quite perfect. The design was lovely, and the fabric felt high-quality, but the fit wasn’t as flattering as I’d hoped. After trying several different swimsuits, I found that I preferred Hermoza for adult swimwear. Hermoza’s swimsuits offer a better fit and more support, which is crucial for feeling confident at the beach or pool. The Minnow Swim Story: From Humble Beginnings to Coastal Chic
Minnow Swim was founded in Southern California (and now operates out of Charleston) by Morgan Smith, a mother of three who wanted to create stylish, high-quality swimwear for children. Inspired by her own family’s beach vacations, Morgan set out to design pieces that were both practical and beautiful. The brand quickly gained a following for its timeless designs and commitment to quality.
Minnow Swim has always been coastal, which is evident in every aspect of Minnow’s collections, from the colors and patterns to the relaxed yet sophisticated styles.
Ethical Manufacturing and Quality Control
One of the things I appreciate most about Minnow Swim is their commitment to ethical manufacturing practices. I only wish they were more specific about what that entails. They have a nice graphic on their website with their process, and say they are dedicated to producing their clothing and swimwear in a responsible and sustainable manner. They work with carefully selected factories that uphold high standards of labor practices and environmental stewardship.
Checking the labels of my purchases, the swimwear is all made in Vietnam and the clothing is made in China.
The Verdict: Is Minnow Swim Worth It?
So, is Minnow Swim worth it? For me, the answer is yes – with a few caveats. If you’re looking for beautifully designed, high-quality clothing for your children, Minnow Swim is an excellent choice. Their toddler clothes, especially the terry cloth pieces, are some of the best I’ve encountered. The quality and craftsmanship are top-notch, and the designs are simply delightful.
When it comes to swimwear, I would recommend trying Minnow Swim with the understanding that their sizing runs small. For toddlers, sizing up should help ensure a better fit. For adults, while the swimsuits are stylish and well-made, they may not be the most flattering option available, at least, not for anyone over size 2.
However, I do think these pieces will last. They’re pricey, but I’m willing to pay up to avoid fast fashion. Plus, higher end clothes often retain their value well and their quality, meaning you can buy and sell them secondhand easily. I bought most of ours on Poshmark!
Overall, Minnow Swim is a brand that captures the essence of coastal living with its elegant designs and commitment to quality. Whether you’re planning a family beach vacation or simply want to add a touch of seaside charm to your everyday wardrobe, Minnow Swim is worth considering.
