A Perfect 3-Day Switzerland Itinerary with Little Kids + Babies
Here’s how to spend three unforgettable days in Pontresina, complete with jaw-dropping views, baby-friendly perks, and a side of luxury that makes the whole endeavor feel almost effortless:
Day 1: Arrive in Pontresina and Settle into the Grand Kronenhof
Getting to Pontresina is half the fun—especially on Switzerland’s ultra-efficient train system. Traveling with a baby? Look for IC trains with the bear symbol when buying tickets, which indicates they have a family car. The play car will be in the back (or front, depending on direction) of the train.
These are a game-changer: think play areas for toddlers, extra space for strollers, and a vibe that says, “We get it. You’re doing your best.”
When you arrive in Pontresina, head straight to the Grand Hotel Kronenhof (read my full review), which might be one of my favorite places we’ve ever stayed. It’s a 5-star masterpiece spa hotel that has been on my bucket list for a while.
Imagine this: you’re stepping into an 1800s palace, complete with original murals and decor that make you feel like you’ve been transported to another era.
The indoor pool is huge, along with an entire spa with heated pools, float pools, saunas, steam baths, and even a heated indoor kid’s pool!
They have those adorable bathrobes for kids, too, stocked in your room. They can also provide cribs, and many rooms have couches that can turn into beds, as well as with connecting rooms for larger families.
Their kids’ club is next-level, offering rotating weekly activities that’ll keep your little one entertained while you sneak in a spa session or even a date night, as they have a kid’s dinner with an elevated menu.
Kids 4 and over are offered free access to the kids club and activities, while those aged 3 and under are welcome accompanied by a parent, or the hotel also offers onsite nanny services for an extra charge.
They’ve even got a bowling alley from the 1800s you can ask for free access to. It’s the kind of setup that makes you wonder why all hotels don’t operate like this.
It’s a short walk from the Pontresina train station, or the hotel will happily pick you up in their 7 Series BMW gratis. If you drive, parking is free, and they’ll totally unpack your car for you!

*Out of budget? The Four Star Hotel Saratz next door is about half price.
Day 2: Explore Pontresina’s Stunning Lakes and Larches
Fall is the time to visit Pontresina. The golden larches transform the landscape into a painter’s dream, and the nearby lakes add a mirror-like touch of tranquility. Take an easy hike (stroller-friendly paths abound) to enjoy the views, or let your baby nap while you soak in the fresh Alpine air.
If you’re more of a “wander and see what you find” type, don’t miss the village itself. Pontresina has this wonderfully charming feel, with traditional Engadin architecture and cozy cafes where you can warm up with a cup of hot chocolate. And if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of some local wildlife—ibex sightings are common in the area!
Day 3: Ride the Bernina Express
For your final day, hop on the Bernina Express, one of the most scenic train rides in the world. The journey starts in Pontresina and takes you through jaw-dropping landscapes: glacial peaks, lush valleys, and charming Swiss villages, all visible through the train’s panoramic windows.
The best part? You can do the round trip in a single day, meaning you’ll be back in time for a relaxing evening at the Grand Kronenhof. And if your baby loves movement (like mine), the train ride will lull them into a peaceful nap—leaving you to bask in the sheer beauty of it all without distraction.
From here, if you have more to add onto your trip, I highly recommend visiting the Dolomites in italy. Switzerland was the first part of a two week trip mostly spent in the Dolomites, and it was wonderful. Read more here:
Why Pontresina Is Perfect for Families
Switzerland is so gorgeous, it’s hard to choose between all of the amazing places to visit, but Pontresina proved to be everything I didn’t know I needed. It’s quiet yet breathtaking, luxurious yet approachable, and filled with baby-friendly touches that make travel infinitely easier.
If you’re planning a trip to Switzerland, I can’t recommend starting in Pontresina enough. And if you stay at the Grand Kronenhof, let me know—I’ll hook you up with the best rates and perks to make your trip as seamless (and magical) as ours was.
Is the Grand Hotel open in the summer? All June and July dates seem to be blocked off for 2025.
