Is Hill House Home Worth the Hype? I Tried it To Find Out
So, is Hill House Home worth it? I’d say yes—for the right person. If you’re all-in on that East Coast vibe or do wear dresses casually, there’s plenty to love. But for me, it’s the kids’ line that’s worth coming back for. I don't love it as much as Rylee and Cru and Bums and Roses, but I could see getting a statement piece again next summer.

Okay, I’ll admit it—Once upon a time when I was researching the best boy clothing brands, I bought into the Hill House Home craze. The seeming cult following had me wondering, Is the nap dress magic real? I needed to find out.
I loved the family matching options, and the button down shirts and little dresses for girls were so adorable, so I took the plunge and ordered 3 dresses and a few pairs of shorts (some directly from Hill House Home and some in the secondhand market, for science.)
The Dresses – Simple but Flattering
First let’s address the nap dresses, which made the brand famous. They lived up to the hype—sort of.
The magic of this rather simple style — which I’ve seen from many other brands — is that it is flattering on just about anyone. That said, it felt a little casual to me, or maybe more like a church dress, which I don’t have cause to wear. However, their party edit may have been more my speed.
There was also some variance between the thickness of the fabric, which made the white dress too sheer.
But they do have family matching options, which is what hooked me.
I did wear one of them to a wedding, but ultimately it felt too casual even with the puffy sleeves. If I’m wearing a dress, it’s because I want to kick the fancy up a notch, and these ultimately weren’t it for me. I ended up selling them on Poshmark.
Their Kid’s Clothing – My Real Winner
But then there’s Hill House Home clothing for kids, and that, my friends, is where it kicked in for me. Oh my goooddd is it adorable, especially the little dresses!
Dressing a toddler in their miniature designs is like an adorable contradiction that somehow works. Here’s my little guy, who usually lives in shorts, tees, and all the breezy “surf’s up” vibes, rocking this outfit that looks straight out of a prep school catalog. It’s beyond cute in that way only a sophisticated little collared shirt on a toddler can be.
The outfit above features a Rylee and Cru top and Hill House Home Tiny Leo Shorts.
Their kid pieces are surprisingly versatile, too. They’re preppy but not so much that they don’t work mixed in with the rest of his wardrobe. Instead of looking out of place, they’ve become his little “statement pieces”—polished, charming, and somehow not a mismatch with his everyday style.
Plus, the quality is there. They hold up well to spills, stains, and all the “oh wow, you just ran through another puddle” moments, so I’m not hovering around him saying, “Careful!” every five seconds.
