The Best Hotels in Hawaii for Families with Little Kids

Hawaii is a dream destination for families, with its stunning beaches, warm aloha spirit, and plenty of kid-friendly adventures. But let’s be real—traveling with kids means you need a hotel that’s more than just a pretty view. You need epic pools, easy beach access, kid-friendly dining, and (bonus points!) a solid kids’ club to give you a little breather.

I’ve been to Hawaii dozens of times, have family who lives there, and have visited every visitable island. Based on that experience, these are the best hotels and resorts to experience as a family.

How to Book with Complimentary VIP Amenities

Did you know that a travel advisor can help you get extra amenities for no extra cost? Think of us as your inside connection to the best hotels in the world.

Instead of booking on your own, you book through us at the exact same rate—but because of our partnerships, the hotel treats you like a VIP. That’s how you get these perks, without paying anything extra:

✨ room upgrades when available
🍳 daily breakfast included (often $120 daily value)
💵 resort or hotel credits to use on property
⏰ early check-in & late check-out when available
🎁 VIP treatment and priority for special requests

Your booking is still a direct booking with the resort, just with our agent ID attached. You still earn full loyalty points too! We’re not a call center or a generic booking site. We’re real people who know these properties, help match you to the right hotel for your trip, and can advocate for you behind the scenes—whether that’s securing the best room, noting a special occasion, or helping if anything goes sideways. Here’s more about how it works.

Best Family Hotels in Maui

Maui is a wonderful island for beautiful views and slightly more variety of activities. While you can easily see Kauai in a week, Maui has so much to do and so many different vibes depending on the part of the island, that it’s worth visiting again and again. These are our favorites (read our full Maui post here):

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea ($1,000+ per night)

If you’re looking for the ultimate splurge, this is it. With adults only Serenity pool, family friendly main pool with swim up bar, a lap pool, family activities, it’s a dream for families. Though still a large resort at 380+ rooms, it’s smaller than many of its neighbors.

There’s a reason why the Four Seasons Maui keeps winning awards. It’s the kind of place families return to again and again.

As Four Seasons Preferred Partners we offer the following benefits:

  • Daily full breakfast for two people per bedroom, served in a hotel restaurant or through In-Room Dining
  • Hotel/Resort Credit* (based on room category booked):
    • Guest Rooms: USD 100 credit per stay
    • Suites and Specialty Suites: USD 200 credit per stay
    • Villa & Residence Rentals: USD 200 credit per bedroom per stay
  • Upgrade of one category, based on availability at time of check-in

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort ($900+ per night)

With a nine-pool aquatic playground (yes, nine!), a lazy river, waterslides, a grotto, and a rope swing, this resort is basically a water park. Their Camp Grande (ages 5-12) offers art projects, cultural experiences, and nature walks, making it a great spot for families.

I stayed here a few years ago and had their tasting menu and it’s still one of the best meals I’ve ever had. It’s also located right next to the Four Seasons on a lovely beach. It’s a larger hotel with 844 rooms, suites and villas.

As Virtuoso advisors, we’re able to offer these additional perks:

  • Early check-in / Late check-out, subject to availability
  • Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability.
  • Daily Buffet breakfast for up to two guests per bedroom.
  • $100 USD equivalent Hotel Credit.

St. Regis Kapalua Bay ($1200+)

With just 50 residential-style suites, Marriott — soon to be St. Regis — Kapalua Bay offers an intimate yet ultra-luxurious experience for families who want the comforts of home in a five-star setting. The resort features an infinity pool, a family pool and the indulgent Spa Montage, ensuring relaxation for both parents and kids.

The Paintbox Program (ages 5-12) keeps little ones engaged with arts and crafts, nature walks, and Hawaiian cultural experiences. Parents who hope to have a romantic evening will appreciate the hotel’s Children’s Night Out program (5-9pm). There’s even UPPAbaby gear rental! Most appealing to me as someone who prefers a boutique feel, the Montage is the smallest resort on this list.

As Virtuoso advisors, we’re able to offer these additional perks:

  • Early check-in / Late check-out, subject to availability
  • Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability.
  • Daily Buffet breakfast for up to two guests per bedroom.

Best Family Hotels on the Big Island

The Big Island is, as its name suggests, an island so large that it could contain the rest of the Hawaiian islands combined.

What most guests love about the Big Island is the feeling of peacefulness here. You’ll find smaller resorts and smaller crowds on this island, which makes it one of our absolute favorites. Plus, the resorts listed here are on one of the driest coastlines in Hawaii, meaning less chances of rain on your vacation.

Kona Village, Rosewood ($1200+ per night)

This is our hands-down favorite hotel in all of Hawaii. It’s unique in that each room is in its own distinct hale, meaning your own bungalow across this spread out resort – there is no high rise building here. Even the mountain view rooms have gorgeous views, and at only 150 hales, it’s incredibly peaceful. It has one of the healthiest reefs I’ve seen in Hawaii, and we loved all of the little extras like shave ice by the pool and Lilo and Stitch under the stars for kids.

They have a kids club for kids aged 5+, and kids under 4 eat free at all resort restaurants when dining with an adult. If you’re looking for something peaceful and truly unique, this is it.

As Rosewood Elite advisors, we’re able to offer these additional perks:

  • Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability
  • Free nights not always publicly available
  • Daily Buffet breakfast for up to two guests per bedroom, served in the restaurant ($120 daily value. Kids 4 and under eat free).
  • $100USD equivalent Resort or Hotel credit, per room, per stay, utilized during stay
  • $200USD equivalent Resort or Hotel credit, per suite, per stay, utilized during stay
  • Early Check-In / Late Check-Out, subject to availability

Four Seasons Resort Hualalai ($1,200+ per night)

The Four Seasons always delivers, and Hualalai is no exception. With a King’s pond with 1.8 million gallon swimmable aquarium with tropical fish, plus the Kids For All Seasons program, it’s a luxurious choice for families looking for top-tier service and amenities.

This is also one of the only hotels in Hawaii where it’s possible to book a suite with its own pool, something we highly value traveling as a family.

As Four Seasons Preferred Partners we offer the following benefits:

  • Daily full breakfast for two people per bedroom, served in a hotel restaurant or through In-Room Dining
  • Hotel/Resort Credit* (based on room category booked):

    • Suites and Specialty Suites: USD 200 credit per stay
    • Villa & Residence Rentals: USD 200 credit per bedroom per stay
  • Upgrade of one category, based on availability at time of check-in

Mauna Lani, Auberge Collection ($700+ per night)

Mauna Lani is solidly in the top 3 most luxurious beach hotels on the Big Island, and the value makes it so worth it. With plenty of rooms with ocean views and a kids club, multiple restaurants including Canoe House with a big lawn for kids to run around, and some great pools along with a calm lagoon, this is a resort we loved and would return to.

As Auberge Partners we offer the following benefits:

  • Daily full breakfast for two people per bedroom

Fairmont Orchid ($600+)

Nestled along the Kohala Coast, the Fairmont Orchid offers a luxurious Hawaiian retreat with 540 guest rooms and suites. The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort, Waikiki ($600+)

Families will love the direct beach access, cultural activities, and kid-friendly dining options. Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa ($500+)

Disney fans, rejoice! This family-focused resort is packed with character meet-and-greets, lazy rivers, waterslides, and one of the best kids’ clubs in Hawaii. Even if you’re not a hardcore Disney fan (I’ll admit to being indoctrinated having grown up 15 minutes away from Disneyland), Aulani is a fantastic option for families looking for an all-inclusive vibe with tons of activities.

The garden island is the smallest and also the most lush of the Hawaiian islands. While it’s impossible for me to pick a favorite island, my absolute favorite hotel is located here, and it’s #1 featured below:
