When I first heard about the SNOO, I was convinced it was the only option out there, but now I know there are plenty of other, more affordable, sleep solutions.

I ended up buying and using the SNOO until my baby was 5.5 months old, and I was a fan. I liked the peace of mind it provides knowing that your baby is sleeping safely on their back and the baseline white noise was quite helpful for us. It also goes through a patented routine no other bassinet can match. However, some may find the price tag steep, and there have been occasional reports of malfunctions, particularly with secondhand SNOOs (which mine was) or even SNOO rentals.
This got me thinking, if I were to have a newborn again, how would I handle those first months? What other options are there? Enter the best SNOO alternatives:

Many parents appreciate its convenience and functionality, but some have reported issues with the swivel mechanism getting stuck or squeaking over time. The additional soothing features are also not as integrated as the SNOO, and have to be turned on and off manually (rather than sensing and responding to your baby), with some parents complaining that it’s too loud, or not loud enough, eventually relying on an external white noise machine.

If I were to do it all again, I’d get this one over the SNOO since it lasts for two years.

10. Secondhand SNOO or Rental
Am I cheating listing a SNOO here? Hear me out on this one – while a brand spanking new SNOO costs nearly $1700, there are many ways to get around the retail price and spend way less.
The truth is, there is no product on the market that is quite like the SNOO. Nothing else on this list has the locking swaddle feature that guarantees your baby stays on their back, and the routine the SNOO goes through if your baby cries really is impressive. It’s not duplicated by anything on this list.
Given, our baby never really needed more than the baseline rocking, and sometimes I’d bump it up in the early morning hours to get a few more Zs if I heard him stirring, but otherwise, with the sleep tracking, app control, and truly on-point responsiveness, the SNOO was worth it for us.
I bought mine for $700 on the secondhand market from a mom in my community, used it for almost six months, and sold it for what I paid when I was done. It was a risk since it could have stopped working, but you can also rent the SNOO or buy refurbished directly from SNOO these days. They’re also sometimes for sale on Goodbuy Gear or Rebelstork. That said, these are all still, understandably, pricey options.
