The Best Family Matching Vacation Clothes (I Tried Them All!

I used to think matching family outfits were firmly in the “not for me” category.

Then I had a child, started traveling as a family, and realized there actually is a way to do it that feels elevated, coordinated, and genuinely cute instead of looking like everyone got forced into identical pineapple shirts against their will.

Back when I was researching the best matching clothes for mothers and sons (because they were fewer and farther between than mother/daughter matching options), I realized there’s a way to do it that photographs well, is adorable, and actually classy.

I tried all of these brands, and they are my winners:

Best Overall: Rylee + Cru

If I could choose only one family clothing brand overall, it would be Rylee + Cru.

Nobody does coordinated family style quite as effortlessly as they do. Everything feels earthy, coastal, and relaxed without trying too hard. Their muted sage greens, terracottas, dusty blues, creams, and oatmeal tones make it incredibly easy to coordinate everyone naturally. Day to day, it’s actually my son’s almost exclusive wardrobe.

I also love that they never forget the boys. So many family brands clearly prioritize girls’ dresses and then throw in an afterthought button-down for sons, but Rylee + Cru (read my full review) consistently has beautiful options across the board.

Their collections are especially perfect for Europe in summer, and family photos where you want everyone to feel cohesive without looking identical.

Best Tropical Resort Wear: Kenny Flowers

Kenny Flowers is probably the best option if you want coordinated family vacation outfits that feel genuinely fun.

Their prints have personality, but they somehow avoid crossing into tacky territory. The whole brand feels more boutique tropical resort than mass-market vacation wear, which is surprisingly hard to find.

I especially love them for tropical destinations like Cabo, Hawaii, and the Caribbean because the colors and prints actually make sense in those settings. Their pieces photograph beautifully at resorts and beach dinners without feeling overly staged.

One thing I really appreciate is that the adult pieces are genuinely flattering. A lot of family matching brands seem to design the kids’ clothing first and then make rushed adult versions afterward, but Kenny Flowers clearly pays attention to fit and fabric for everyone. I own some of their swimwear and the quality is solid.

Best Elevated Vacation Dresses for Moms: Show Me Your Mumu

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that the mom’s outfit often determines whether the whole family aesthetic feels elevated.

Show Me Your Mumu makes some of my favorite vacation dresses because the pieces feel effortless and resort-ready without looking overly trendy. Their flowy silhouettes, softer prints, and linen-adjacent fabrics have more of a bold coastal vibe than the neutrals of Rylee + Cru, and personally, I have a little love for both in my wardrobe.

I especially love their dresses for beach dinners, family photos, and tropical vacations where you want to look polished without looking formal. Fortunately or unfortunately, I had to buy the above fish dress and matching shirt for an upcoming Hawaii trip! They also work well during pregnancy and postpartum phases, which honestly matters!

Best Coastal Luxury Vibe: Minnow

Minnow has such a timeless aesthetic. Everything feels very East Coast summer in the best way — understated, classic, and quiet luxury.

Their swimwear is especially good for coordinated family looks because the prints are subtle enough that nobody looks overly matched. I love their softer stripes, pale blues, terry cloth pieces, and vintage-inspired silhouettes for beach vacations and resort pool days.

Minnow (read my full review) is one of those brands that always looks expensive in photos without screaming designer.

Best Elevated Family Swimwear: Hermoza

Hermoza absolutely deserves a spot here, especially for moms who want swimwear that feels elegant and supportive at the same time.

Their swimsuits have a timeless, slightly vintage-inspired feel that works beautifully at luxury resorts. I originally fell in love with the brand postpartum because the pieces felt flattering and comfortable without looking matronly, which is a difficult balance to find. Read my full Hermoza review here.

Their coordinated family options also feel much more refined than most matching swim collections, and they are fully tailored with extensive attention to detail that I think we can all agree we deserve!

The Secret to Family Vacation Outfits That Actually Look Chic

The biggest difference between looking good and looking a little too done when matching as a family comes down to restraint.

The families whose vacation photos always look elevated usually coordinate instead of matching exactly. They stick to natural fabrics, softer color palettes, and pieces that genuinely fit the destination.

I almost always gravitate toward linen, gauze, cotton, terry cloth, muted florals, and earthy neutrals. Those textures photograph beautifully and feel relaxed in a way that bright synthetic fabrics just don’t.

I also think destination matters more than people realize. Kenny Flowers feels perfect in Cabo or Hawaii, while Rylee + Cru feels especially beautiful for coastal California or European summers. Matching the energy of the destination makes everything feel more natural.

Are Elevated Family Vacation Clothes Worth It?

This is one of the few categories where buying fewer, better pieces actually makes sense.

Not because kids need expensive clothing, but because the fabrics hold up better, the pieces photograph beautifully, and you avoid the disposable fast-fashion feeling entirely. I’d much rather have a handful of vacation outfits we genuinely love and rewear or sell than piles of overly themed matching sets we use once and never touch again. Wouldn’t you?
